Chapter 14 – Journey’s End
After two years of happily living out of a dusty swag, of exploring Australia’s diverse and breathtaking vastness, of seeing the inspiring natural brilliance that is the Great South Land, my journey now approached its completion. For much of my wandering, there had been no real time pressure. I moved on when it felt right to move on and stayed when it felt right to stay. The concept of time had only influenced my life through the amount of light each day. With Christmas on the horizon, however, my journey now became a logical progression versus the random walkabout it had previously been as mileage goals became part of my travelling calculus. It was a difficult habit to re-establish having delighted in the energising resonance of Nature’s circadian rhythms during my walkabout. But that is life, circumstances change, and it is up to us to make the most of those changes whether we like them or not. After being ‘liberated’ from my career, I could have become disillusioned and frustrated. Instead, I took advantage of the opportunity to experience the adventure of a lifetime with all the blessings and lessons such a journey entailed. I just had to trust the end of my walkabout would facilitate the same opportunities for growth and wisdom its unexpected beginning certainly had.
