Chapter 9 – On the Wallaby

The road still called. Nature’s exciting, mesmerising siren call had not yet released its gentle but firm grip on my soul. Despite having spent 2002 travelling and working in the vastness of the Australian Outback, my feeling of not having fully experienced everything Nature had to teach was still there. I felt an apprenticeship had commenced though it had yet to finish. There was still much to see and many lessons to learn before Nature, and Odin, would release me from the walkabout path I had chosen. It was a journey requiring a dedication to its completion before moving to the next stage of my life; a journey I had to trust was leading me in the right direction, down the right path, at the right time. This need to travel to those places not yet experienced, not yet seen, was a difficult feeling to throw. Accordingly, with Nature’s stirring whisper still urging the journey’s completion, I returned to the Wallaby Track to complete my walkabout around Australia. It felt very natural to roll the swag and head back to the bush, back to the majesty of the natural world. Especially as this would be the last opportunity to enjoy such freedom, for a while at least, and the life-changing wisdom it would no doubt impart.
