The destruction of the natural world is the gravest risk facing humanity today. From a slew of studies highlighting the impact of both human-induced climate change and the rapid rate of species extinction, it increasingly appears that humanity is slowly destroying the very environment that gives us life. Further insights into the extent of this damage will come with the release of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) report in May 2019; a report by more than 500 experts in 50 countries into the high rates of extinction, unsustainable levels of resource usage, and how this compromises humanity’s ability to provide the resources required for a growing human population.
Awakening to Nature’s teaching, and the wisdom of the natural world, is increasingly critical to understanding how to better connect with our only home; the Earth. For it is only when humanity loves the Earth, more than its ego-driven needs and wants, will we change from the unsustainable, self-destructive path currently being taken to one that will benefit all sentient beings.
